Limits to Ambition is Reiner's first novel, which earned him his Master's Degree in Professional Writing from Towson University.
Reiner is a freelance writer, actor, and producer; he teaches writing at Towson University, the University of Maryland, and Shepherd University.  He began acting as an undergraduate student at Shepherd, where--as a member of the "Rude Mechanicals"--he gained experience in Medieval and Renaissance Drama. He is a member of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre and its comedy/improv troupe, the Comedy Pigs.

He appeared as Gib in the Second Shepherd's Play, Titivillus in Mankind, and Sehm, The Rapist, and Lost Soul in Death and Destruction.
In 1998, he played John the Baptist in The Harrowing of Hell in the Poculi Ludique Societas production of The York Plays in Toronto.
His other credits in classical theatre include the roles of Helena in
A Midsummer Night's Dream, Friar John in Romeo and Juliet, Pandarus in Troilus & Cressida, and male chorus in Lysistrata.
In September 2002, Reiner made his television debut as a member of the German GSG-9 elite anti-terrorist unit on a Special Forces episode on The Learning Channel.
